At DevDay, OpenAI said Pro 200 includes 10 times the Plus allowance in Work and Codex, half the old 20x. A new $500 plan, Pro 500, now sits above it.
The old 20x allowance survives only as a bridge. If your Pro 200 plan was active at any point from September 22 to 10 a.m. Pacific on September 29, you keep it through October 29 while the plan stays active. On October 30 the price stays at $200 and the allowance drops to 10x. GPT-6 Pro in Chat drops from 200 to 100 messages a week.

Is ChatGPT Pro 20x Back? What Happened to the 20x Plan
Not for new subscribers. Pro 20x was the label on the $200 Pro plan. In April, OpenAI's pricing page sold its two Pro plans as 5x or 20x the Plus usage, and the name stayed through the September pause. The plan came back on September 29 as Pro 200, at 10x for new subscribers. After October 29, only Pro 500 sits above 10x.

If you saw the 20x plan marked unavailable, that was the pause. OpenAI stopped new sign-ups and upgrades on September 10 because demand for GPT-6 Astra strained its systems, as TechCrunch reported. Some outlets dated the reopening September 30, after an OpenAI post on X announced it for the next day. OpenAI's release notes date it September 29, the day of DevDay.

OpenAI's About ChatGPT Pro tiers page is the primary source for prices, Ultrafast and the grandfathering window, and it prints no multiples. The 5x appears in OpenAI's April release notes. The 10x comes from Thibault Sottiaux of OpenAI on X and from OpenAI at DevDay. The 25x for Pro 500 comes from OpenAI's email to subscribers and from launch coverage by The New Stack.
I choose by the work and ignore the plan name. Pro 100 fits one person running a few long Codex or Work sessions a week. Pro 200 fits daily agent work that stays under 10x Plus, and OpenAI lists it with unlimited GPT-Live voice. Pro 500 makes sense when your heaviest week needs more than 10x, or when Ultrafast saves paid human time.
Is ChatGPT Pro 200 Still Worth $200?
Only if you need the Pro models and the freedom of no five-hour limit. The volume discount is gone. At 20x for $200, each Plus-sized block of usage cost $10. At 10x it costs $20, and Pro 500 at 25x also lands at $20 per block. Pro 200 no longer buys cheaper capacity.
OpenAI's help pages only say lower. Thibault Sottiaux, who leads core products such as Codex and ChatGPT at OpenAI, wrote on X that the new plan nets out at half the old plan's value in API spend, as The New Stack reported. He also committed to keeping the five-hour limit off, so you can spend the weekly allowance in bursts.
My test is simple. If your heaviest week used less than half of the old Pro 200 allowance, the new plan changes nothing for you. If you hit the ceiling often, you have three choices. Accept the lower ceiling, buy credits for the overflow, or move the heavy jobs to Pro 500 or the API.
Already on Pro 200? Keeping 20x Until October 29
Check two things before October 29. First, watch for OpenAI's email: only affected users receive one, with the details for their account. Second, at the end of a heavy week, open Settings, then Usage, and note the percentage of the allowance you used. Double it for a rough idea of the same week on the new allowance. OpenAI also changed how usage is calculated, so treat it as a guide.
Current subscribers also get a one-time grant of 62,500 usage credits, which OpenAI values at $2,500, as The New Stack reported. That matches the US App Store price of $4 per 100 credits. The grant expires on December 31, 2026. I would spend it on the overflow that would otherwise push you to Pro 500, then check in January whether you still need more.
Avoid cancelling to reset anything. If your plan ends and you subscribe again on the same account, you keep the old allowance only if you had an active Pro 200 subscription between September 22 and 10 a.m. Pacific on September 29, and only through October 29. Outside that window, a new subscription starts on the lower allowance.
Need More Than 10x? Credits, Resets or Pro 500
When 10x runs out, you have four moves before you upgrade. Buy credits in Settings, then Usage, and they cover Codex, Work and the Office apps after the allowance is gone. Buy an instant reset, where offered, which pulls next week's allowance forward. Run extra local Codex work on an API key at API rates. Or move to Pro 500 if your heaviest week truly needs more.
Speed settings are the hidden cost on every tier. OpenAI says Fast mode uses the included allowance at 2.5 times the Standard rate, and Ultrafast at 8 times. If you leave Fast on by default, a 10x plan delivers about 4x Plus at Standard speed. Turn it on for jobs where waiting costs money and keep Standard for everything else.
Can You Pause ChatGPT Pro?
No. ChatGPT has no pause button. OpenAI's help pages offer three moves: cancel and keep access until the billing period ends, switch plans in Settings, then My Plan, or undo a scheduled cancellation. After October 29 every Pro 200 account runs on the same allowance, so a quiet month on a smaller plan costs you little.

My Decision Rule
Keep Pro 200 if your heaviest week fits under 10x Plus and the Pro models matter to your work. Drop to Pro 100 if it fits under 5x. Move to Pro 500 when your heaviest week needs more than 10x, or when Ultrafast saves more human time than the extra $300 a month costs. Review the choice every month with three numbers: accepted jobs, limit hits and total spend.
